Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of reusing drilling fluid wastes (or drilling wastes), to make usable bricks, such as building bricks and permeable bricks. We were successful in producing building bricks and permeable bricks consistent with both the Taiwan national standards and commercial products' specifications, respectively. For building bricks, the reusability of drilling wastes for making building bricks ranged from 17 to 100%, decreasing as the amount of organic matter increased in the drilling wastes. For permeable bricks, the reusability of drilling wastes for making permeable bricks was as high as 90%, independent of the content of organic matter in the drilling wastes. Therefore, in terms of technical aspects and overall reusability, it is feasible to reuse drilling wastes for making permeable bricks.
