Experimental Analysis of Consumption and Exhaust Emissions of Gasoline and LPG in Car Engines Under Cold Climatic Conditions

Abstract

Due to the increasing population, fuel consumption per person is rapidly increasing. Since petroleum reserves are decreasing, the petroleum costs are increasing. Therefore, the studies on economical use of fuels derived from petroleum have been intensified. Beside this, studies on reducing exhaust emissions are still going on. In Turkey, the usage of liquefied petroleum gas as an alternative of gasoline has been increasing rapidly, because of the reasons mentioned above. In this study, specific fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of liquefied petroleum gas and gasoline has been measured when it is used in a car engine. The car engine used in this study is on Otto engine with a carburetor. It has a volume of 1,581 cc and four cylinders. Engine performance, specific fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions have been measured in the case of using gasoline first and in the case of using liquefied petroleum gas second in Kutahya, which has cold climatic conditions with seven months of winter.
