Characterization of Oils from Haloclean® Pyrolysis of Biomasses

Abstract

A new technology (Haloclean®) is described for the so-called “intermediate pyrolysis” of biomasses; complete analytical profiles of the resulting bio-oils are appended. Haloclean® is a very flexible and rapid process that can be applied to chips, pellets, dusts, or pieces of any kind of biomass. The composition of bio-oils depends on the nature of feedstock and process conditions. Concerns regarding the toxicity of these oils have to be answered, first of all by a detailed study of their composition. With this aim, we carried out a broad physico-chemical characterization of bio-oils obtained by the Haloclean® intermediate pyrolysis of several biomasses.

Notes

*Determined on dispersions of 500 μl oil into 5 ml distilled water.

*Weighted average of LHVs (lower heating values) of both oily and watery phases.
