Abstract

Tergitol-7 is used as a surfactant with EDTA as a reductant and Azur-B as a photosensitizer in a photogalvanic cell for solar energy conversion and storage. The observed values of the photogeneration of photopotential and photocurrent are 778.0 mV and 45.0 μA, respectively. The observed conversion efficiency is 0.14%. The fill factor is 0.3169 experimentally determined at the power point of the photogalvanic cell, whereas the absolute value is 1. The rate of initial generation of current is 20.0 μA min1 . The maximum power of the cell is 35.01 μW, whereas the observed power at power point of photogalvanic cell is 14.75 μW. The photogalvanic cell can be used for 40.0 min in the dark. A mechanism has also been proposed for the generation of photocurrent in the photogalvanic cell.

Notes

a Azur B = 4.00 × 10−5 M; EDTA = 2.20 × 10−3 M; Tergitol-7 = 7.20 × 10−3 M; Light intensity = 10.4 mW cm−2; pH = 12.60; Temperature = 303 K.
