Abstract
With the aim of better understanding geochemistry and assessing potentially hazardous trace elements of marine oil shale, 18 samples from the Changshe Mountain area are studied. The contents of Se, Mo, Cd, As, Bi, Cs, F, and Zn are enriched from 1.8 to 34.5 times as compared with the Clarke values, whereas the other elements are slightly higher/lower than the respective worldwide means. The potentially hazardous trace elements in the Changshe Mountain oil shale include As, Cd, Mo, and Se. Arsenic, Mo, and Se are mainly controlled by organic matter, whereas Cd is mainly present in fossil remains.
