Carbon Capture and Storage: Current Perspectives, Re-use Activities, and Future Prospects in Turkey

Pages 1979-1987 | Published online: 14 Sep 2015

Abstract

The continuous rising of anthropogenic emission into the atmosphere as a consequence of industrial growth is becoming uncontrollable, which causes heating up of the atmosphere and changes in global climate. The complexity in the structure of geological formations and the processes involved in this method necessitates the use of revealing the potential problems, determining feasibility, storage capacity, and life span credibility. The development and commercialization of carbon dioxide capture and storage technology would have positive impacts in certain regions of Turkey. Many domestic industries utilize CO2-intensive processes in their activities and many regions throughout the country have storage potential in close proximity to the sources. Being independent from the location carbon capture technology (CCT) can be applicable to all the existing and new coal, natural gas, fuel oil, and biomass-fueled power plants in Turkey.
