ABSTRACT
Cladophora glomerata algal oil is extracted using modified Soxhlet extraction method. Maximum oil percentage is found to be 18 w/w% from methanol-chloroform solvent mixtures at 65°C for a time extent of 3.5 h. The parameters such as dryness of biomass, extraction time, choice of solvent, and use of co-solvent along with primary solvent are optimized in order to enhance the yield of bio oil production. The algal oil functional groups and composition are characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Further, basic fuel properties were determined to characterize oil quality of the algal oil according to ASTM, AOCS, and IS/ISO standards.
