Abstract

This study develops a hierarchical indicator system for measuring the transport sustainability of Taiwan. An indicator generator is constructed to generate 89 initial indicators. Subsequently, 26 key indicators are selected using rough sets theory (RST). Two-stage principal component analysis (TSPCA) is applied to aggregate the information from 19 key indicators using available historical data to determine the transport sustainability of Taiwan from 1993 to 2010. The results reveal that transport sustainability fluctuated from 1993 to 2005, and then gradually moved toward sustainability after 2005. However, analysis reveals that sustainability in social aspect is in a long-term decline.
