The European Union Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief: An Assessment

Abstract

In 2016, the European Union (EU) established the position of Special Envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) outside the European Union. Ján Figeľ served in the position and released a report on his work at the end of 2019. This essay provides an assessment of the role of the Special Envoy in the European and global context of FoRB promotion and protection.
