I am delighted to introduce myself as the new editor of New Review of Film and Television Studies, and, in the same breath, to acknowledge Warren Buckland for his years of esteemed service. Under his tenure, the journal became one of the discipline’s most respected. It has become known for its theoretical rigor, and has featured the best of film scholars – both junior and senior. I intend to continue this tradition while also emphasizing the ‘new’ and ‘television’ in the journal’s title. My dream is to make New Review synonymous with profound, philosophically informed scholarship on expressive screen culture.
As is the tradition of the journal, the first issue of the calendar year is a special one. I am grateful to Murray Pomerance for stepping in to guest edit this rainbow examination of the aesthetics of cinematic color. I am also grateful for the generous support of the Office of the Dean of Arts at Ryerson University, which allowed the journal to feature such beautiful color images in the print edition.
