Seeing a Contemporary: Fourcade, Visual Form, and History

Pages 59-68 | Published online: 20 Feb 2007

Abstract

1.  See “Un entretien avec Frédéric Valabrègue”, p 7.

3.  Ekphrasis, the verbal description of a visual image, has its own long history in poetry. The situation of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries make ekphrasis anything but predictable, and Fourcade in particular creates a fluid art writing that stretches ekphrasis to its limit.

4.  This was the first volume of poetry that Fourcade published after the ten year gap when he engaged himself with studying the syntax of modernist painting and what it could offer poetry.
