Trust in Trump in Translation

ABSTRACT

Broadcast interpreters are facing a dilemma translating President Trump's words; they have to serve two masters, namely the original words and the viewers. The struggles are illustrated with examples of three peculiarities of Trump: repeatedly used simple words, chopped or incomplete sentences, and inflammatory language.
