Abstract

The text—part poem, part essay—is an homage to both the Kanak sculptor, Maryline Tidjepache, and to life in New Caledonia in its multiple dimensions—those of joy and desire, anguish, and hope. A simple life, however.

Nicolas Kurtovitch

Nicolas Kurtovitch is one of the leading voices in New Caledonian literature. His collections of poetry, short stories, and novels have received several awards, notably the Antonio Viccario International Poetry Prize, the Poetry Prize of the Ouessant Island Book Fair (for Le Piéton du Dharma), the Vi Nimö Prize (for Les Arbres et les rochers se partagent la montagne), and the Popaï Prize (for Les Heures italiques). He has been named a Chevalier in France’s Order of Arts and Letters, served as the first president of the Writer’s Association of New Caledonia, and is a founding member of the Geopolitics Center of New Caledonia.
