Happy New Year from all of us here at the VNJ, and welcome to the January edition of the journal. It is hard to believe that it is 2018 already and it time once again for us to reflect on the journal’s journey over the past year. The readership survey has helped us to ascertain what people like about the journal but we are always keen to hear your views throughout the year. The survey indicated that many of you would be willing to write for the journal so please get in touch and let us know what areas you may be interested in writing about.

Last year at this time I was truly astounded at how far the journal had moved forward and again, on refection, I can see the journal continue to forge ahead into the realms of research whilst still keeping it’s ‘feet on the ground’ to provide something for everyone. I must also take this opportunity to thank our fabulous editorial board which has expanded over the past year and met regularly to help steer the journal to where it currently is. The editorial board also review every article that comes into the journal through, what is now, a robust and effective double-blinded peer review system. The journal continues to expand internationally with overseas institution subscriptions and an increase in international authors. We have a dedicated equine issue for you in March and aim to bring you some other dedicated editions over the coming year to ensure that the journal continues to help you to expand your CPD portfolio.

The BVNA congress 2018 programme was launched at the end of 2017 and once again contains an excellent balance of topics and speakers. You will notice this year that some advanced lectures have been introduced to cater for RVNs working in all sectors. The start of any year is integral to CPD planning and hopefully there may still be money in the practice budget up for grabs. It is definitely worth looking at the early bird discount rate for the conference as this makes signing up now even more attractive.

I hope you enjoy the January edition and once again Happy NewYear!
