Sustaining market competitiveness of table tennis in China through the application of digital technology

Abstract

This paper was a review of literature study that illustrates the impact of technology on the sport of table tennis throughout the history of this sport in China and discuss current possibilities for the application of digital technologies that would augment the development and sustainability of table tennis in the future. After a brief introduction of historical development of table tennis in China, influences of technological innovation and regulation evolution in table tennis are extensively examined from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Discussions are centered on the necessity of sport organizations to be consumer-centric and embracing emerging products and technologies. Modern digital technologies such as IoT, data analytics, wearable devices and VR/AR can help sports organizations to optimize their business and operational capabilities in terms of brand building, channel integration, service processes and organizational structure.
