Photographs From ‘Afro-Antillean Sentiment’

Pages 343-346 | Published online: 30 Nov 2009

Abstract

From Africa to the Caribbean to Panama and to the United States and back, the history and culture of Panamanians of Afro-Antillean descent is layered with struggle and survival. These photographs document a culture that may not exist in the future, stitching together a representation of a generation for whom locality was everything, and a generation that have come from a time that while they did not feel a need to identify themselves, they also felt no need to question the continuity of their culture.
