Sadaf Saaz

Sadaf Saaz is a poet, writer, entrepreneur, molecular biologist, and women’s rights advocate. She was born in the USA, grew up in the UK, and studied at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. She now lives in Dhaka, and is director and producer of Dhaka Lit Fest, one of South Asia’s most well-known literary festivals, which she co-founded in 2011. She runs an arts production company, Jatrik, and The Junction, a performance space. She is a founding trustee of Shadhona, a centre for South Asian performing arts. She is in the textile business, and has recently started a clinical research company. She is a member of the Bangladeshi women’s activist organization Naripokkho, and the founding Chairman of Safety Assistance for Emergencies (SAFE). She is also on the Board of Trustees of BRAC University and on the governing body of the Research Centre for Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Chittagong. She is the author of a collection of poems, Sari Reams (2013), with oral recitations to original music. Her monologues based on Bangladeshi women’s stories, Je Kotha Jai Na Bola (That which cannot be said), have been performed in various locations in Bangladesh. She has recited her poetry in Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, India, Pakistan, and the UK, and her work has been published in various journals and anthologies, including Weber, Wasafiri, and The Best Asian Poetry 2021. She is currently writing a novel.
