The polychaete Brada inhabilis (Rathke, 1843), shortly after collection with a bottom trawl in the Barents Sea, during an ecosystem survey coordinated by the Institute of Marine Research (www.imr.no). This member of the family Flabelligeridae is a relatively common species of sandy and muddy bottoms down to abyssal depths in most of the Arctic and the northern temperate part of the North Atlantic. This specimen is shown with the ventral surface facing upwards; the visible parapodia are the neuropodia, the notopodia being strongly reduced in this species. The anterior end is at the left, where the two palps and the eight branchiae (two groups of four) are fully everted. Photographer: David Shale (www.deepseaimages.co.uk).
