Editorial – Welcome to a new editor

This will be my final editorial for the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine, as I hand responsibility over to Mr Timothy Zoltie from this point forward.

It has been a privilege to act as editor these last four and half years, and I would like to thank the editorial committee and our publishers Taylor and Francis for making this a (mostly!) smooth and very enjoyable experience.

During my time as editor, I have had the privilege of seeing numerous excellent papers on a range of topics relevant to our profession. Over the course of the pandemic in particular, it has been great to see the community produce such a wide range of useful research and guides on COVID related topics such as best practice in public health communications, as well as practical guides on topics such as decontamination procedures for photographic equipment.

Going forward, I ask that you continue to share your ideas, work, research, and images through the journal, we can’t do it without you!

Caroline Erolin

It is a great honour to introduce myself as the next editor of the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine. While I could discuss advancements and proposals for the future of the Journal, in this short editorial I would rather look to the past and take this opportunity to thank Dr. Erolin for her achievements as the outgoing editor. Caroline has been pivotal in ensuring the continued success of Journal through the implementation of mentoring programmes, creation of online websites, author interviews, and multiple presentations in order to raise awareness of the Journal and increase contribution. Caroline’s invaluable support for her editorial team (myself included) will hopefully ensure this will be a smooth editorial transition.

As Mr. Nick White, current Chair of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) described it; I am following a small but illustrious group of members who have edited the journal over the years. I wish to express my gratitude to the IMI Council for electing me as the new Editor-in-Chief of this influential Journal and look forward to embarking on this role.
