Never the Twain Shall Meet Met'

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I completed my MSc in Art Psychotherapy at QMU in Edinburgh. I live in Glasgow, Scotland.

The title of the artwork is 'Never the Twain Shall Meet Met' – it is mixed media on canvas (150cm × 100cm). The artwork was completed over a number of months Dec 2022 – March 2023 as I worked on my dissertation which was an autoethnography about my own experience of professional trauma as a social worker. The painting reflects the power of art (as personal) therapy in bringing implicit trauma memory into explicit memory; my personal experience of this phenomenon gives me confidence in how art therapy may be used with others to renegotiate trauma memory.

Artworks for the front cover of the International Journal of Art Therapy are selected from the British Association of Art Therapists' online art galleries. Find out more about the galleries and how to submit at www.baat.org
