The life and soul of the image

Pages 48-55 | Published online: 02 Jan 2008

Abstract

This paper introduces stories and experiences of images being alive or coming to life. It considers this phenomenon from perspectives of religion, anthropology and Jungian psychology. The second part of the paper demonstrates an exploration in word and image which amplifies the theme and which leads to a discussion of the concept of the archetypal image, its function and significance in the practice of art therapy.
