Is the figural after-effect accompanied by changes in discrimination?

Pages 218-221 | Published online: 07 Apr 2008

Abstract

In the figural after-effect one part of the visual field is apparently expanded relative to the rest, and it is suggested that the expansion might correspond to an improvement in discrimination. An experiment, in which subjects were required to judge the direction of curvature of lines after fixation of a straight line, showed no such improvement.
