This issue sees a few changes to the Editorial Board of Computational and mathematical methods in medicine (CMMM).

It is with great regret that we see Professor Brian Sleeman step aside as Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Brian was the Founding Editor of the Journal of Theoretical Medicine, which has subsequently been renamed to Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine (CMMM). Brian showed great foresight in his vision to see a journal bringing together the disparate disciplines of mathematics and medicine, which followed closely one of his research interests. Brian worked passionately to develop the journal through some difficult times, with the insight to encourage biomedical and clinical scientists onto the Editorial Board, and the success the journal sees today is a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Brian will remain very active in the journal, as Associate Founding Editor, and he retains a great interest and passion to see CMMM develop still further.

With Brian's decision to step aside as Editor-in-Chief, it is our pleasure to welcome Professor Siv Sivaloganathan, to work alongside Dr Pam Jones, as Joint Editors-in-Chief.

Siv is Head of the Biomechanics Group in the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Waterloo, and Director of the Centre for Mathematical Medicine at the Fields Institute in Toronto, with a longstanding interest in biomechanics and the development of mathematical models clinical conditions.

The biomedical sciences are clearly beginning to take centre stage as some of the premier sciences of the twenty-first century, with the result that there has been a marked increase in mathematical scientists currently engaged in research in the broad interdisciplinary field of ‘mathematical medicine’.

CMMM continues to move forward rapidly, reflecting the increased focus on systems and interdisciplinary collaborative efforts across the breadth of biomedical, clinical and translational research areas. CMMM provides a unique forum for the dissemination of multidisciplinary research resulting from collaborations between empiricists and theoreticians, and we look forward to its continued evolution and higher profile in the coming years.
