¹ This part of the course was modelled on the milestones and evaluation procedures of the problem-oriented student-directed project work at Roskilde University (see Olesen and Jensen 1999; Kjeldsen and Blomhøj 2009), and adapted to the summer course by T H Kjeldsen. Parts of it had been implemented in the workshop PhD study as problem oriented project work by Kjeldsen at the nineteenth Novembertagung in Holbæk, Denmark 2008, and introduced at Northwest University's Workshop for Graduate Students held by Kjeldsen and T Archibald, of Simon Fraser University, in connection with The 2nd international conference on the history of modern mathematics, in Xi'an, China, 2012.
