Daniel Herwitz

Daniel Herwitz is Fredric Huetwell Professor of Philosophy, Comparative Literature and History of Art at the University of Michigan where for a decade he directed the Institute for the Humanities (2002–12). He was Chair in Philosophy at the then University of Natal (1996–2002) and thereafter an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town (2011–16). Herwitz has published 13 books a number of which address the art, culture, law, and politics of the South African democratic transition. His more recent book is The Political Power of Visual Art (2021).
