Chaoyan Dong
Dr Chaoyan Dong earned a PhD in Educational Communication and Technology from New York University, USA in 2008. Since then, she has been working in healthcare education in USA and Singapore. From 2008 to 2013, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at New York University School of Medicine, where her focus was patient education through digital technology and simulation, drawing from her background in cognitive science, education technology, and psychology. In 2013, she moved to Singapore with her family, first working at the Centre for Medical Education at National University of Singapore, and recently at Sengkang General Hospital. Her responsibilities include healthcare education management, continuing professional development, and education research. She has always been interested in promoting patient-centered care through education. In 2018, her young son was diagnosed with cancer. Along the journey where she accompanied her son for the cancer treatment, Dr. Dong has experienced first-hand various patient-healthcare professional interaction and sharpened her interests in advocating for patients’ and caregivers’ roles in medical care. She hopes to raise healthcare professionals’ awareness on this topic.
