ABSTRACT

Federally funded Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) aims to improve nutrition equity through hunger relief setting. However, little is known about TEFAP disbursement method (choice, modified choice, and no choice) to pantries or the quality received by pantries. Food inventory data from 239 pantries in 2020 were used to assess the association between TEFAP quality and type of disbursement methods longitudinally. While no significant differences were observed in quality across disbursement types and months. Our study suggests there are tradeoffs across different methods. TEFAP for the most part is a healthy food source that should be maximized by food pantries.
