Pages 118-121 | Published online: 24 Feb 2013

Abstract

Students in health education professional preparation programs are often “taught” various competencies but do not “learn” these competencies until required to apply them. This article suggests one way to apply competencies while students are in school, through enrollment in a course, Service-Learning in Health Education. The benefits of such a course for the community, students, and the institution are discussed.
