Dierdre Bevington-Attardi
Dierdre Bevington-Attardi has been at the Census Bureau as a Geographer since 2009. Prior to this, she worked at the National Geographic Society's Cartographic Division, where she began her career as a Geography Intern. After completing her M.A. in Geography at University of Maryland, she consulted with some of America's most prolific historical geographers during her work on National Geographic's Making of America poster map series and as the Chief Researcher on the Historical Atlas of the U.S. She managed the content development and production of thematic maps, National Geographic atlases, journals, school textbooks, and map, published in curriculum programs for National Geographic and its scholastic partners such as Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, John Wiley & Sons, and the California Education and the Environment Initiative. At the Census Bureau, she collaborates with federal partners as a theme lead and dataset manager for the Federal Geographic Data Committee's National Geospatial Data Assets. She has coauthored articles on statistical mapping and data visualization at the Census Bureau and participated in the concept development and editing for geography and history activities for the Statistics in Schools program. She serves as U.S. National Committee member for the International Cartographic Association and organizes U.S. entries for the Barbara Petchenik International Children's World Map Competition. Dierdre spent most of her childhood overseas in Italy, Thailand, and Japan.
