The Introduction of Gender Identity Disorder of Childhood into DSM III: An Historical Note

Abstract

The author reviews his early involvement in research on cross-gender behavior, particularly the University of California, Los Angeles longitudinal study of cross-gender boys. He examines the deliberations in formulating the diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder of Childhood for the DSM III.
