Introduction

These are a few of my favorite things

, MSc, MD, FRCPC

As this issue of the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Mental Health goes into production in early November 2019, there are snow flurries in the air in Toronto, a cold snap in New York, and seemingly everywhere: grumblings that winter, and the holiday season, are coming “too soon!” Gasps of dismay ring out, accompanied by a puff of white chill, when a merchant dares bring out the holiday decorations “too soon!” Yet what can’t come too soon for me are the favorite movies that play at this time of year on rotation, including the movie adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.

I was reminded of one of the songs from that musical as I was examining the manuscripts offered to you, our readers, in this issue. We have been privileged in recent months to have received the gift of many high quality manuscripts, such that we could not fit them all into the printed page budget of our 30th anniversary year. You may have seen some of these studies published already on Taylor & Francis Online, but now we present them tied up with, if not string, then the best binding glue we can offer.

These are indeed some of JGLMH’s favorite things: studies on minority stress, the particular concerns of bisexuals, rural gays, international contributions, LGBTQ elders, pre-exposure prophylaxis, and transgender mental health. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed gift-wrapping this issue for you.

Speaking of our editorial team, I would like to thank Dr. Marc Manseau for his wonderful contribution as an Associate Editor in the past transitional year for the journal. He has decided to move on to other projects and we wish him well. Next issue, we will have more announcements about exciting changes to our editorial board.
