The (Not So) New Aspects of Coming Out: A Review of Coming Out: The New Dynamics

Pages 201-205 | Received 11 Jul 2014, Accepted 24 Sep 2014, Published online: 15 Apr 2015

Abstract

Nicolas A. Guittar's (2014) new book, Coming Out: The New Dynamics, explores the current meaning(s) of coming out. Based on interviews with 30 participants, the author elucidates what he phrases as the “new dynamics” of coming out. Although some of these dynamics may indeed be newly based on empirical data, they are not all necessarily new social phenomena.

Notes

1It is important to note that Guittar's focus is on the coming-out process in regard to one's sexuality. For this reason, he intentionally does not include any discussion on trans* identities as they relate to notions of coming out.
