Jamie Coates
Jamie Coates is Lecturer in East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield. An anthropologist by training, Jamie researches media and mobility in the Sino-Japanese context. To date, he has focused on how young Chinese people in Japan imagine their place in the world, including the various media influences that might inform these imaginaries. His recent publications include ‘The Cruel Optimism of Mobility’ in positions: East Asian cultural critique (2019), and ‘So Hot Right Now: Reflections on Virality and Sociality from Transnational Digital China’ in Digital Culture and Society (2018).
