In this issue we are publishing seven papers with a broad range of subject matter and geographic origin. The issue starts with a paper by Jeswiet and Nava that considers the application of carbon emission signatures in assembly. This is followed by a paper by Ameta et al. that is concerned with the reduction of the carbon footprint in a specific manufacturing process. Continuing the manufacturing theme, but with end-of-life treatment in mind, the paper by Carrell et al. considers the future for active disassembly. Renewable energy resources is the theme of the paper by Banapurmath and Tewari who report the opportunity for using non-volatile vegetable oils in a low-heat rejection engine that employs exhaust gas recirculation.

Three of the papers have a built environment theme: that by Mallick and Bergendahl evaluate the use of warm mix asphalt as a way to reduce CO2 emissions associated with road building and repair; whilst Hassan et al. consider how users can be educated to better deliver energy efficiency. The final paper, by Klotz et al. explores sustainable building delivery from the perspective of process transparency. The built environment theme is completed by a review of Janis Birkeland's book entitled: ‘Positive Development’.

This is the final issue of volume 2 and represents the successful completion of the second year of publication for the Journal. The Editors are grateful for the support that they have received from colleagues engaged in the publication process. They also acknowledge the support of the authors and reviewers without whom there would be no papers to publish.

We urge readers to submit papers and to encourage their colleagues to do the same. We also invite conference organisers to consider the opportunity for publishing selected conference papers as special issues and welcome suggestions for non-conference special issue topics and nominations for special issue editors. The Editors are committed to attracting a strong flow of high quality papers for publication and are optimistic for a successful third year of publication.
