Welcome to the first issue of 2012, the year in which we enter our fifth year of publication. We plan to publish four issues during 2012 with an intention to present 90 pages of content in each issue. The first issue has a theme devoted to polymers in sustainable engineering and we are grateful to our colleague James Colwill for acting as editor for this themed issue. His introduction to the themed issue follows on from our brief editorial.
We would like to invite our readers to propose themed issues on other relevant topics and we would also welcome proposals based on forthcoming conference themes that can be developed as Special Issues.
