Jungian screen studies – ‘Everything is Awesome…’?

Abstract

Jungian film theory has reached a point where it has started to coalesce into a field. It is perhaps timely to take stock of what constitutes that field, and the extent to which a Jungian orientation to film and media is differentiated from Freudian and Lacanian approaches as well as those derived from traditional phenomenology and Deleuze.

Dr. Luke Hockley is Professor of Media Analysis at the University of Bedfordshire, UK. He has authored and co-edited a number of books, including Somatic Cinema: (Routledge, 2013), House: The Wounded Healer on TV (Routledge, 2011), Jung and Film 2 (Routledge, 2011). His forthcoming book with Nadi Fadina is titled The Happiness Illusion: How the Media Sold us a Fairytale (Routledge, 2015). He is joint Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Jungian Studies. He is a registered psychotherapist with the UKCP and works in private practice in London and Bedfordshire.
