Safety net: weaving a web of resources to catch what one-shots can’t

Pages 114-128 | Published online: 31 May 2023

Abstract

The library one-shot is common in academic libraries, though not universally loved by academic librarians. This article examines several ways in which single-session library instruction can benefit from the development and implementation of more well-rounded learning opportunities, which may be used in conjunction with or in place of the one-shot. The author pulls from literature published in the last decade as well as their own experiences to justify a net- or web-based approach to library instruction. They provide several sample instruction method formulas that allow for adaptation and flexibility based on the needs and values of individual institutions or librarians.
