Promoting sexual self-efficacy of men with spinal cord injury using PLISSIT model

ABSTRACT

Research has established sexual health as a main priority for men with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI); nevertheless, it continues to be under-addressed by health-care providers. Therefore, this multiple baseline single case study aims to promote the sexual self-efficacy of men with spinal cord injury using PLISSIT (Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, and Intensive Therapy) model. For this purpose, three male patients with SCI were recruited and the Sexual Self-Efficacy Questionnaire was administered and the data were collected at three baselines, four intervention sessions, and three follow-ups. Data analysis was conducted at the six levels of trend, variability, the immediacy of the effect, overlap, and consistency of data patterns across similar phases. The results of the analysis of the six levels revealed that sexual self-efficacy intervention was successful at promoting the sexual self-efficacy of the patients with SCI. Therefore, the health-care providers are recommended to take into account the sexual self-efficacy of such patients through the implementation of appropriate interventional programmes.
