When this journal was launched in March 2009, it was the first international and interdisciplinary publication devoted to the systematic study of Catholic education (and of other faith based schools), comparatively in different socio- cultural contexts. In its first year, it was accessed by readers in 40 countries and the publishers Routledge, recorded 354 full text downloads of articles.

We are pleased to report that today, ISCE is accessed by 112 countries and jurisdictions and Routledge has reported almost 17,000 full text downloads in 2019. The importance of these figures is that it demonstrates that a recognised international field of Catholic (and other faith based) education is becoming established across the world and that ISCE is playing a significant role as a source of research and scholarship in that field.

As the journal moves into its second decade of publication, some changes are taking place in the constitution of the Editorial Board with effect from January 2021. A number of long serving members have completed their terms of office and we express our thanks to them all for their service in propagating the journal in their countries. These members are:

  • Associate Professor Aubrey Scheopner Torres (USA) Associate Editor

  • Professor Carlos Torrendell (Argentina)

  • Sister Dr Maria Natalia Ajayi, IHM (Nigeria)

  • Sister Dr Mary Genevieve (India)

  • Dr Maria del Mar Griera (Spain)

In 2021 we welcome new members to the Editorial Board:

  • Professor Mary Doak (USA) Associate Editor

  • Associate Professor Cristobal Madero (Chile)

  • Sister Dr Ugonna Rita Igbo, DDL (Nigeria)

  • Dr Nicholas Tete, SJ (India)

  • Professor Jose Torralba (Spain)

  • Sister Professor Jacinta Adhiambo, MCESM (Kenya)

  • Dr Sean Whittle (UK)

I intend to step down as Executive Editor of ISCE in December 2021 and therefore a new Editor will be appointed with effect from January 2022.
