Abstract

This study investigated the production of acid phosphatase enzyme, which plays a direct role in the metal bioaccumulation and growth of Rhizopus delemar, in the presence of increasing concentrations of Zn(II) ions. Inhibition of the organism’s growth rate by Zn(II) ions was found to be of the partially competitive type, with an inhibition constant of 301.4 mg Zn(II)/L. In addition, Zn(II) ions exhibited a non-competitive mixed-type inhibition on the activity of acid phosphatase. For the mixed-type inhibition, the inhibition constant (KI) and the binding affinity (α) were determined as 116.67 mg Zn(II)/L and 0.395, respectively.
