28—FRICTIONAL PROPERTIES OF NEW SPINNING OILS

Abstract

For ensuring satisfactory frictional behaviour during spinning or carding of fibres with a static coefficient of friction (μ,) < 0·2—0·3, (e.g., wool (with-scale direction) and wool mixtures) spinning oils with an adhesion force (g) > 0·215—0·225 seem to be satisfactory. For spinning or carding fibres with μ, > 0·2—0·3 (e.g., synthetic fibres) spinning oils with better lubricating properties (adhesion force (g) < 0·215—0·225) may be preferable. Frequently the best results will be obtained from mixtures of spinning oils with complementary properties. Results of laboratory tests and experiences gained from mill practice are reported.
