Abstract

Results of a study of the variables involved in flat-setting wool fabrics are given. Optimum conditions are generally impregnation of fabric (the aqueous extract of which is pH 4·5—6·0) with 0·5—;1% sodium bisulphite solution, followed by steaming for 2–;3 min. If these conditions are not used, large losses of strength and abrasion-resistance can occur.
