Aspergillus – Molecular Biology & Genetics
Edited by Masayuki Machida and Katsuya Gomi

The book comprises ten chapters, starting with an overview of Aspergillus by Joan Bennett, and is a balanced general look at the group. Chapter 2 looks at the molecular systematics of Aspergillus and its teleomorphs. Again, this is a detailed chapter, providing basic data on the phylogeny. Chapter 3 is on comparative genomics and gives details of species in which entire genomes have been sequenced. This chapter reviews new data relating to genes and is well worth reading. Chapter 4 is useful as it deals with bioinformatics and systems biology of Aspergillus, while Chapter 5 deals with transcriptional regulation, Chapter 6 with genetics and genomics of sexual development, Chapter 7 with the genomics of secondary metabolism, Chapter 8 with gene regulation, Chapter 9 with functional systems biology and Chapter 10 with the genomics of novel industrial applications. This is a compact tome full of detailed information, mostly pertaining to genomics, all on Aspergillus and is, thus, a specialized book. Each chapter has an informative abstract, well laid-out subheadings, a conclusion and numerous citations.
This should be available in university libraries and colleges where genomics is taught.
