Chenodeoxycholic Acid: Uses and Limitations

Pages 57-65 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Conclusions about the efficacy and safety of this agent for dissolving cholesterol gallstones must wait until late next year, when results of large clinical trials are available. But results from many studies are available, as are preliminary clinical data from trials of a possible alternative, ursodeoxycholic acid. At any rate, an alternative to the choice between observation and surgery seems on the horizon.
