The two Eichmanns The Eichmann trial

Pages 165-172 | Published online: 30 Apr 2013

Notes

1. Reporting on his last words, Arendt notes that Eichmann declared that he was no Christian and did not believe in life after death, only to follow this by announcing that ‘after a short while, gentlemen, we shall all meet again’, her conclusion being that ‘under the gallows, his memory played him the last trick; he was ‘elated’ and he forgot that this was his own funeral’ (1994, p. 252).
