Abstract
Mobility partnerships are the most recent EU migration policy instrument. By linking migration and development, they are supposed to foster a more efficient and coherent EU policy. The European Commission considers this instrument, ‘the most innovative and sophisticated tool’ of European migration policy. The article describes this concept and its background, critically reviews the experiences with some already introduced pilot partnerships, and draws conclusions for further political action.
