Dear reader,

This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics starts with the Novel Vaccines section, which contains a review on norovirus vaccines (Melhem, p 1653), a clinical trial of protective efficacy of a tuberculosis subunit vaccine in TB patients (Liu, p 1670), a preclinical study of a recombinant measles virus-vectored tetravalent dengue vaccine (Hu, p 1678), a report on anti-Pseudomonas aeruginosa activity of egg-yolk antibodies in boosting innate immunity (Thomsen, p 1690), an article on the natural immune response to RSV infection in children younger than 18 months (Esposito, p 1700), and a description of a novel engineered leishmaniasis vaccine (Hudspeth, p 1707).

In the Influenza section you can find a systematic review of live attenuated vaccine efficacy after revaccination in children (Caspard, p 1721) and four research articles on the immunogenicity of intradermal seasonal trivalent vaccine in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients (Chuaychoo, p 1728), mobile application for post-vaccination adverse events reporting (Wilson, p 1738), barriers to hospital-based healthcare worker vaccination in Australia (Tuckerman, p 1749), and quantification of surfactant-induced virus-splitting (Lee, p 1757).

We are happy to present five articles on Licensed Vaccines: modelling of the consequences of varicella and herpes zoster vaccination in Germany (Horn, p 1766), a review of guidelines for adult immunization schedules (Esposito, p 1777), a preclinical study looking at safety of single high-dose immunization with a third-generation smallpox vaccine (Tree, p 1795), a case report describing a child with severe allergic reaction to lyophilized purified Vero cell rabies vaccine (Fang, p 1802), and a release of the third national standard for Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine lot-release testing in Korea (Lee, p 1805).

Two articles on Meningococcus include a review of factors underlying the immunogenicity of conjugate vaccines (Bröker, p 1808), and a product review of MenACWY-TT vaccine (Assaf-Casals, p 1825). Four Hepatitis-related research articles investigate the economic value of infant HepB vaccination in China (Chen, p 1838), immune responses to HepB vaccination in anti-HBc positive adults (Yao, p 1847), impact of universal hepatitis A vaccination of infants on hospitalizations in Greece (Papaevangelou, p 1852), and antibody levels after HepB vaccination in medical university students in Mexico (Cárdenas-Perea, p 1857).

The Immunotherapy section introduces a review on multifunctional nanoparticles in cancer immunotherapy (Saleh, p 1863), a preclinical study of TGF-β1 targeting in asthma treatment (Ma, p 1876), and a commentary on systems for immune tolerance induction in multiple sclerosis (Pires, p 1886). Two studies on Pneumococcal vaccines look at PPV immunization of the elderly in Spain (Domínguez, p 1891) and the risk of hospitalization because of pneumococcal disease (Gil-Prieto, p 1900), and are followed by a Letter on the PCV efficacy trial in older adults as well as a Reply Letter (Paradiso, p 1906; Musher, p 1908).

Three articles on Acceptance include a systematic review of determinants of European parents’ decision-making in MMR vaccination (Tabacchi, p 1909), and two commentaries on vaccine criticism on the internet (Ward, p 1924) and the online debate on emergency polio vaccination in Israel (Connelly, p 1930). Finally, the HPV section presents a report on the co-prevalence of EBV and HPV infection in Syrian women with breast cancer (Al Moustafa, p 1936) and a Letter with a Reply Letter on the impact of Cervarix on infection and cervical cancer (Brown, p 1940; Taylor, p 1943).

Our monthly News, Policy and Profiles (NP&P) track offers a selection of the latest news in the field of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. In this section we also regularly publish opinion pieces on timely, interesting and controversial topics related to vaccines and immunotherapeutics, profiles of companies and organizations, as well as portraits of distinguished scientists in our field. Please contact Acquisitions Editor Adam Weiss ([email protected]) with your ideas for commentaries, opinion pieces, profiles and portraits. Your suggestions for and contributions to our N&P&P track are always welcome!
