Letter from the editor

Dear reader,

This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics starts with a Portrait of Dr. Bruce Levine of University of Pennsylvania (p 2204), followed by six articles on Licensed Vaccines : a cost-effectiveness analysis of a practice-based intervention to promote adult vaccination (Smith, p 2207), estimation of the potential impact of herpes zoster vaccination in Germany (Curran, p 2213), a review of the safety of the Japanese encephalitis vaccine in children (Ginsburg, p 2222), safety and immunogenicity study of whole-cell cholera vaccine in the Philippines (Capeding, p 2232), a meeting report from the 6th Asian Vaccine Conference (Goh, p 2240), and a commentary on the safety of maternal immunization in developing countries (Khan, p 2245).

The Immunotherapy section presents a product review of interleukin-targeting MAbs for treatment of psoriasis (Jeon, p 2247), a preclinical study of recombinant adenovirus expressing GM-CSF and an EBV protein (Xue, p 2260), a commentary on combining cell therapy and vaccination to treat solid tumors (Zander, p 2269), and a meeting report from the 15th Annual Meeting of the Association for Cancer Immunotherapy (Kranz, p 2272).

Three articles on HPV include a product review of the 9-valent vaccine (Zhang, p 2280), a study of hospitalizations with HPV-related cancers in Spain (López, p 2292), and a commentary on vaccine promotion in the US by the Vaccination Initiative Group (Lind, p 2300).

Two research articles on Pneumococcal vaccines, economic evaluation of PCV in Italian infants (Castiglia, p 2307) and a modelling study to predict a correlate of protection in clinical trials (Almudevar, p 2316), are followed by two articles on Novel Vaccines : a review of Moraxella catarrhalis vaccine development (Perez, p 2322) and a preclinical study on Streptococcus mutans mucosal vaccine for dental caries prevention (Cao, p 2332).

Two articles on HIV include analysis of HLA types associated with disease progression (Li, p 2341) and a meeting report from the Keystone Symposium on HIV Vaccines (Cottrell, p 2348). The Hepatitis section consists of a report on the control of a hepatitis A outbreak in an area of low endemicity (Vaz, p 2352).

Next, an article presents serum neutralizing antibody as a correlate of protection of the pentavalent Rotavirus vaccine (Liu, p 2357), a review looks at development in the Technology of spray-dried vaccines (Kanojia, p 2364), and a study investigates Influenza vaccine effectiveness in China during the 2014–5 season (Ma, p 2379).

We are happy to present a Special Focus on Allergy Immunotherapy . You will find out more about the ten reviews and one research article put in the context of the development of the field in the Editorial introduction by Dr. Wayne Thomas (p 2385).
