Letter from the Editor

Dear reader,

This issue of Human Vaccines & Therapeutics starts with five articles on Acceptance, including a review immunization information systems for increased uptake (Gianfredi, p 2508), a survey of hesitancy determinants in Quebec (Guay, p 2527), an interview-based study of intervention to promote maternal vaccination mediated by midwives (Kaufman, p 2534), assessment of knowledge and attitudes to pediatric vaccines in Malaysian mothers (Balbir Singh, p 2544), and a Letter to the Editor on the value and measurement of vaccine literacy (Biasio, p 2552).

Seven research articles on Licensed Vaccines investigate the impact of universal vaccination on trends in varicella and herpes zoster epidemiology (Choi, p 2554) — see also the associated Letter to the Editor (Lai, p 2561) and a Response Letter (Park, p 2562) — the sero-epidemiology of pertussis in Hangzhou, China (Xu, p 2564), economic burden of measles in Zhejiang, China (Deng, p 2571), vaccine effectiveness in HIV-infected and exposed children (Adetokunboh, p 2578), burden of vaccine-preventable diseases among these children in sub-Saharan Africa (Adetokunboh, p 2590), influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates among patients with acute respiratory failure (Candemir, p 2606), and a case of rabies post-exposure prophylaxis failure (Bharti, p 2612).

In the Influenza section, we present two reviews of the insights into vaccination and host responses from transcriptomics (Rao, p 2615) and implementation of yearly enhanced safety surveillance in Europe (Dos Santos, p 2624), and two research articles on low awareness about vaccination among Chinese pregnant women and their obstetricians (Wang, p 2637) and coverage among splenectomy patients in Italy (Bianchi, p 2644).

The segment on Public Health introduces a study of quality improvement approaches for reducing missed opportunities for childhood vaccination (Adamu, p 2650), and two mini-reviews on the importance of affordable pediatric vaccines (Kaufmann, p 2660) and vaccine stock management in healthcare facilities (Iwu, p 2666).

The Novel Vaccines section features a review of human CMV vaccine development (Cui, p 2673) and a study on the efficacy of a novel recombinant vaccine against RSV (Li, p 2684).

We present two articles on Immunotherapy: a policy & status paper on the development of therapeutic MAbs in China (Jiang, p 2695) and a commentary on determining patent eligibility for immunotherapy products (Wang, p 2706).

Two Pneumococcal articles include a systematic review of comparative efficacy of PCVs (McGirr, p 2713) and a commentary on serotype shifts (Dobay, p 2725).

Finally, we introduce a review of the two-dose schedule of the Meningococcal MenB-FHbp vaccine (McDaniel, p 2729), analysis of B- and T-cell receptor diversity in response to Hepatitis B vaccine (Miyasaka, p 2738), a systematic review of Rotavirus disease burden (Badur, p 2754), a Clinical paper on a rare adverse event, the Arthus reaction (Peng, p 2769), and a Technology commentary on the Neisseria PorB protein as adjuvant (Yuen, p 2778).

Our monthly News, Policy and Profiles (NP&P) track offers a selection of the latest news in the field of vaccines and immunotherapeutics.
