Letter from the Editor

Dear reader,

This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics starts with five articles on Immunotherapy: multi-omics characterization of a metastatic melanoma patient with durable remission following dendritic cell (DC) vaccination (Dillman, p 742), in vitro (Ma, p 756) and in vivo (George, p 779) evaluation of novel DC-targeting hepatitis B chimeric protein immunotherapy, a preclinical study on an intranasal cocktail of MAbs for treatment of ricin poisoning (Rong, p 793), and a meeting report from the 17th Annual Meeting of the Association for Cancer Immunotherapy (Beck, p 808).

The Influenza section features seven research articles on 2016-7 vaccine effectiveness against H3N2 and H1N1 strains in Chinese children (Zhang, p 816), impact of a school-based vaccination program in Hong Kong (Lau, p 823), consequences of switching from tri- to quadrivalent vaccine in Mexico (Ruiz-Palacios, p 827), direct and indirect effects of vaccinating children in Germany (Schmidt-Ott, p 836), potential connection between influenza vaccination and protection from heart disease (Musharrafieh, p 846), vaccine knowledge and attitudes among patients hospitalized with influenza-like illness (Tubiana, p 851), and immunogenicity and safety of high-dose quadrivalent vaccine in Japanese elderly (Sanchez, p 858).

Eight articles on Licensed Vaccines include a comparison of anti-hepatitis B and anti-pertussis antibodies in children vaccinated with different hexavalent vaccines (Vesikari, p 867), assessment of risk of fever following measles vaccine in children in relation to their parents’ medical condition (Zerbo, p 875), analysis of measles immunity in the China-Myanmar border region (Zhou, p 881), cost-effectiveness modelling study of various varicella vaccination strategies in Mexico (Graham, p 886), a report on rubella seroprevalence among Italian women (Marchi, p 895), a meeting report from the 5th European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases conference (Esposito, p 899), a commentary on yellow fever vaccine in Brazil (Ishak, p 900), and a case report on immune persistence 10 years after rabies post-exposure prophylaxis in a child (Zhu, p 904).

The Novel Vaccines section presents a challenge study on a DNA vaccine-antibody combination for prevention of Zika infection (Choi, p 907), a review on the development of leishmaniasis vaccines (Coutinho de Oliveira, p 919), and a Letter to the Editor on the One Health approach to the current COVID-19 epidemic (Ahmad, p 931).

Two Meningococcal research articles discuss disparities in U.S. healthcare providers’ interpretation of ACIP recommendations (Huang, p 933) and protection by 4CMenB vaccine against strains not predicted by the Meningococcal Antigen Typing System (Stella, p 945).

Two research articles on Hepatitis B investigate the effectiveness of booster doses in healthcare workers (Grazzini, p 949) and the cost-effectiveness of adjuvant immunoglobulin treatment in universal vaccination settings in China (Zeng, p 955).

Finally, we are happy to present a report on Pneumococcal vaccine uptake among Australian elderly (Frank, p 965), a review of vaccine Clinical trials in Africa (Ndwandwe, p 972), analysis of HPV vaccine coverage in sexual minorities in Mexico (Allen-Leigh, p 981), and a Public Health review on adult vaccination in India (Dash, p 991).
